W231 Context
W231 is a writing class offered at IUPUI’s English Department to allows students to partner closely with community clients. Students in W231 reach out to clients and volunteer to help them with potential problems they may be facing. Students learn how to problem-solve with others in the class by researching and analyzing.
W231 includes an individual writing project along with a team writing project lasting 10 weeks. The independent writing project includes:

Connecting and interacting with clients

Writing different varieties of business writing(emails, memos, letters, etc.)
The ten-week team project, which is the recommendation report on this website, condenses and summarizes over 600 hours of research on an in-house challenged provided by a client in the community. Some of the community organizations who have worked with the W231 class for the team project includes:

W231: Professional Writing Skills includes:

40+ sections each year (face-to-face, hybrid, and online)

Over 1,070 students enrolled each year
Each team is made up of 4-5 students

Partners with over 175 community clients every year

Creates and distributes a local study that contains at least 50 respondents

Invests about 200 volunteer hours for each client (100 hours on research and 100 hours on analysis and writing the report)
